The Sextant Series

As technology and performance continue to push the limit of possibilities, the end goal for a fly rod remains the same. We seek to cast a fly line with ease and accuracy – to deliver our best artificial imitation at the right time and in the right place to convince the fish to eat. In saltwater fly fishing, fly presentation and placement are often as critical as when casting tiny imitations to fussy selective trout. But there is also a need for power; both to face into the wind so commonly encountered and to turn the heads of the largest fish.

These combined challenges of accuracy, delicacy and power are met with the Sextant saltwater series from T&T.  The Sextant rod family was born from extensive R&D, representing an evolution in composition and construction from any fly rod previously available.

Sextant rods are constructed with a unique reinforcement strategy that enhances strength and recovery properties of high-performance unidirectional fibers. This improves the coefficient of energy of the completed rod sections, resulting in rods that load quickly and generate wind-cutting line speed and casting distance with less effort.

The entire Sextant rod family shares a smooth loading, quick recovery action that allows for precise accuracy at short distances without sacrificing the power and backbone necessary for punching flies at longer distances through the wind.

Please Note: All T&T rods are handcrafted in Greenfield, MA. Rods with RECoil and CeRECoil stripping guides are typically built to order, please allow 4-6 weeks for our craftsman to build your rod.

9 Weight Sextant - Excellent

I have the 9 foot 9 weight Sextant which is my second T & T rod, the first of which was a Zone 9 weight.
I fish for Salmon, and Steelhead etc. with this rod in the Salmon River in NY (I'm lucky to live about a half hour from Pulaski). In late May, I am usually in the Ogunquit, or Mousam rivers of Maine for a week of striper fishing as well. This rod does everything very well and is extremely easy to cast. The rod is finished so well - it is the best looking salt water rod I have seen by a long way - absolutely perfect craftmanship. It's hard to look at rods that cost a few hundred dollars more and don't look any where near as good. Compared to other rods in this category this one is a good deal now too. Kudos to T&T for that.

If you are wondering if you should get one, just do it! The customer service is great as well. The lower portion of my rod Tube ended up coming apart due to the glue/epoxy loosening up, and they sent me a new one in less than a week. It was a very easy email etc.

Great company, craftsmanship, and rods (both Zone and Sextant!)

Sextant 6wt - A fabulous "crossover" rod

I live in the San Francisco Bay Area and usually fly fishing within 30-40 min drive from home. Essentially an urban fly fishing of very different waters - the Pacific Surf, the quiet Bay, reservoirs and creeks coming down from the Santa Cruz Mountains. The 6 wt Sextant has emerged as a perfect "do it all rod" which does not leave my car. It has the backbone to cast closures in the surf and the delicacy to present dries when necessary. I love the action. I love the look. I love everything about this rod.

A+

The Sextant series of rods brings anglers an A+ lineup. These rods are light, crisp and smooth. Guiding full time in the Florida Keys we rely on good working gear. Permit fly fishing requires accurate casts in windy conditions. Tarpon require accurate delicate presentations and then lifting power. Bonefish long delicate accurate presentations are a must. The sextants provide all of this and are fun to cast. Each rod casts equally well from the 6 weight to the 12. These are the rods you will eventually own and love to cast.

THE SEYCHELLES PREFERENCE

After countless hours of testing the latest materials and designs in the the brutal waters of the Seychelles, T&T has made a rod that I’m proud to say is without doubt my preferred rod for saltwater. The 11# and 12# are both great for casting big flies with precision but importantly powerful to pull any GT. The 10# will tame any milkfish and the 8# and 9# has fineness to trick the finicky and power to pull any triggerfish or permit. They are so powerful that I often fish an 11# for GTs and an 8# for permit as they cast bigger flies with ease. We exclusively fish T&T at all our Alphonse Fishing Co destinations by choice. The Sextant is the product of thousands of hours on the water through the guides eyes, into the T&T families ears, designs and finished product. They won’t let you down in harsh environments where you can’t be let down.

THE Saltwater Rod

After a full tarpon season in the books with the Sextant all I can say is YES! The perfect blend of power and accuracy in one rod! Has excellent punch with minimal effort yet still has the ability to lay delicate casts accurately... Everyone searches for a rod to make them better and this is the one! Beginners and intermediate casters can cast this rod with ease. Went the whole season with ZERO snapped rods.. I watched die hard (competitor) rod owners put their rods up for the rest of the trip and fish the Sextant after casting it.. If you want a game changer this is the series.. All line weights cast and feel the same! Great job guys!
