Thomas & Thomas Rods & Accessories - Paradigm

The Ultimate Presentation Rod.

Ask a group of experienced anglers to name the greatest dry fly rod of all time, and the T&T Paradigm is sure to be mentioned more than once. Over twenty years later, we’ve followed the same inspiration that made the original into a legend to create a new Paradigm for the 21st century.

While the advance of technology has pushed the limits of rod weight, line speed and casting distance, the essence of stalking a rising trout and presenting the fly remains unchanged. With this in mind, we set out to capture the unique feel that made the original Paradigm fly rods such a magical instrument.

A fine rod is a rod that you can love. You’ve really accomplished something when you make a rod that is the one that people want to reach for before all others.” - Tom Dorsey

Different than expected…

…but great.
My first experiences w T&T was in the 70s when I bought two 4-piece graphite ‘Travelers’—$160 a piece.
I’ve done a lot of fishing with them—5 wt, 7 wt.
In Washington State east of the Cascades, in Colorado west of Colorado Springs, and more recently closer to home, North Georgia.
Wonderful rods, both. Look forward to fishing new Paradigm this fall in Cashiers, NC.

Paradigm: New is old again

I wasn't sure you could do it in this day of faster, stiffer graphite fly rods, but the new Paradigm is a triumph! I cherish and fish a pair of twenty-year-old veterans, a two-piece Paradigm 905 and a three-piece Paradigm 904. I purchased a new Paradigm 906 this spring, a spring that featured a great deal of high water on the Upper Delaware system. The 906 saw a lot of use!

This rod still has incredible control and feel for real fly casting! It allows presentation of the fly at any distance required with elan! I was floating down the West Branch one tough, breezy day this spring. I was in the middle of the river and spotted a riser on the bank that was nearly opposite my boat. I anchored immediately, leaving myself with one good brown rising 90 feet away. The wind was blowing upriver, and strong enough that it wasn't kind to presentation of a dry fly. The Paradigm loaded smoothly and sent my size 14 Hendrickson perfectly to my target, with enough controlled slack to allow a perfect float at a full fly line's distance from the boat, despite the winds. There was little casting "effort" involved, thanks to a marvelously conceived and executed fly rod.
The brown took on the third cast, and the rod demonstrated its superb fish fighting properties. The trout was nineteen inches, the best of the day. The New Paradigm made catching him easy!

Bravo gentlemen! You pulled it off, creating a wonderful new version of a classic, the best graphite fly rod a trout angler could ask for!

6wt - Big Water Dry Fly Stick

If you're fishing Early season anywhere, you'd deal with Big Water, Tons of Wind, Long Casts and Big Fish. This is my go to Rod for Hendricksons, Green Drakes, Isos, and any Terrestrial in the box. It can deliver big dries 60-70ft, in wind, on a dime and buffer 6x in high water. It has all the power of any modern high grade fast rod but flexes incredibly deep before unloading a line and recovering true to form. It can do anything a modern angler needs but is in my opinion the finest full flex loading rod to pursue Big Trout on Dry flies. My home waters is the Upper Delaware River system and this is the only Rod I need from Apil-June.
