Who introduced you to fly fishing?
My earliest memories fishing was with my mom and dad in the highlands of Pennsylvania fishing. It was my uncle Donny who taught me nymph fishing around the age of 10. He changed the course of my life, thats for sure!
Can you tell us a little about your home waters and the fish you pursue there?
Living and growing up in the Pittsburgh area, there are limited wild trout waters. My home waters are wherever my van is parked.
What's the height of the season for you? What time of year is your personal favorite?
From March to June is the height of my season, and also my favorite time. If I had to pinpoint a week, it would be the time around cinco de mayo.
What are your favorite travel destinations? What's on the bucket list?
In my life I've been blessed to have fished in amazing places around the world. Next this July is Bosnia and Serbia. Truthfully my bucket list place isn't something specific, its just the next place I'm lucky enough to go to.
What you like most about Thomas and Thomas rods? Which rods do you fish?
I recently took a trip to visit the rod shop where Thomas & Thomas rods are made. It was great to see the love and care of precise details put into every rod.
The contact 10.9 2wt is my rod of choice. Its the right balance of flex and recovery that helps me to make accurate casts and precise drifts while nymphing.
What's your current go-to fly?
Other than fly tackle, what piece of gear do you find indispensable?
My van! Vanlife!
My favorite thing about guiding is:
Instructing. Helping anglers to think and analyze situations and fishing on a deeper level.
As a guide I realize I have the power to change an anglers life, how they spend every weekend or day off, what they think about when they are daydreaming.. Fishing!
From the angler’s point of view, what do you see as the main value of going on a guided trip?
Help angler’s to fish and catch fish at a higher level on their own by understanding where and why fish live where they do. Learning (alternative) methods of nymph fishing, and developing skill, management and approach.
What can new fisherman expect to get out of a guided trip? My favorite thing to teach a client is ...
Simplicity…. My approach of fishing and instruction is very much about keeping it super simple, respect other anglers, landowners and the fish.
What's your ideal lunch when on the water? What do you actually pack?
No lunch, enjoy more world class instruction!
What fly fishing blogs/magazines do you read regularly?
Instagram fish photos for inspiration
When I'm not fishing you'll find me:
Loving my family and beautiful son Jonah.
