Who introduced you to fly fishing?
Can you tell us a little about your home waters and the fish you pursue there?
Mud and sand flats of Casco Bay and Scarborough Marsh in the Portland, Maine area pursuing striped bass in the shallows.
What's the height of the season for you? What time of year is your personal favorite?
The height of the season is June through October. My favorite time of year is late June through September, early morning bottom of the outgoing tide as the sun rises followed by the sun getting higher in the sky incoming tide as a handful of fish return to the flats for a unique site fishery north of Cape Cod.
What are your favorite travel destinations? What's on the bucket list?
Lately, my favorite travel destinations are Bonefish & Permit by foot somewhere off the coast of Venezuela :) My bucket list includes Seychelles and Honduras for Permit.
What do you like most about Thomas and Thomas rods? Which rods do you fish?
What's your current go-to fly?
It depends on species, time of day and stage of the tide.
Other than fly tackle, what piece of gear do you find indispensable?
A good outboard and push pole.
My favorite thing about guiding is:
On the flats, the teamwork between the Angler and Guide makes you part of their experience and you want them to enjoy it as much as you do as well as you want to enjoy it as much as they do.
From the angler’s point of view, what do you see as the main value of going on a guided trip?
Local knowledge, proper equipment on hand rigged and ready matched up with the fishing scenarios expected for the day.
What can new fisherman expect to get out of a guided trip? My favorite thing to teach a client is ...
New fisherman can expect a better understanding of what it takes to become a successful angler in the saltwater from casting techniques to the why, what and where of the fish movements throughout the tides, what fly patterns to use, and most importantly being that this is a new angler, that they never learn trout set.
What's your ideal lunch when on the water? What do you actually pack?
A good old sandwich and water. I'm a simple, light eater in the sun.
What fly fishing blogs/magazines do you read regularly?
Midcurrent.com as a blog Drake and Tail for magazines.
When I'm not fishing you'll find me:
Windsurfing or surfing with my daughters or thinking about fishing.
